JD’S BARBER COMPANY
One chair. Old country on vinyl. A barber who cares about his craft.
JD’s Barber Co. in Madelia, Minnesota, already had a personality all its own. It needed a brand presence to match. Building around the original brand mark illustrated by Alayna DeLaCruz, I expanded the visual identity through photography, website design, print materials, signage, merch, and digital design. Every piece was designed to carry the character of JD’s shop beyond its walls and give people a feel for the place before they ever sat in the chair.

This project started in the barber chair. As a regular customer, I got to know JD and the shop he was building. Vintage decor, old country records, and a commitment to traditional barbering made the experience feel personal. He had a brand mark, but there was room to build more around it. Our conversations shaped a clear direction: give people a sense of who JD is and the care he puts into his work before they walk through the door.

I kept the original brand mark and built out an identity rooted in JD’s taste and the atmosphere of his shop. Photography brought the space and his craft into focus, while the website, business cards, signage, and merch gave the brand a consistent look wherever people encountered it. I also set up a Google Business Profile to help people find the shop and a Bio Site to put his key links in one place.

The work now lives throughout the shop, on JD’s website, and across his social accounts. What started with a brand mark became a fuller identity, with the visuals and everyday materials to carry it forward. It all comes back to the same thing: making the brand feel like the shop and the person behind the chair.
